Seeing your website down can be stressful, but most causes are quick to diagnose. Before assuming the worst, work through these checks in order.
Step 1: Confirm It’s Actually Down #
Sometimes what looks like downtime is a local issue on your end:
- Open an incognito or private browser window and try loading your site again.
- Try a different browser entirely (switch from Chrome to Firefox or Safari).
- Try loading the site from a different device using cellular data instead of Wi-Fi.
- Ask a friend on a different network to check, or use a third-party “is it down for everyone” tool.
If the site loads fine elsewhere, the issue is local to your original device or network — not your hosting.
Step 2: Check Apex Uptime Monitoring #
- Log into my.apexmanagedhosting.com.
- Open Your Apex Managed Panel and look for the Uptime or Status section.
- This will show you recent uptime history and confirm whether our systems have detected any downtime for your site.
Step 3: Check Your Domain’s DNS #
If your domain was recently registered, transferred, or updated, DNS issues are a common cause:
- In your portal, go to the Domains section.
- Confirm your domain’s nameservers or DNS records are correctly pointed to Apex Managed Hosting.
- Keep in mind DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes up to 24–48 hours to fully propagate.
Step 4: Check for a Suspended Account #
A missed or failed payment is one of the most common reasons a site suddenly goes offline. Log into your portal and check Billing > Subscriptions for any past-due notices or suspension warnings.
Step 5: Contact Support With the Right Information #
If your site is still down after these checks, contact our support team with:
- Your domain name
- The exact error message you’re seeing (if any)
- A screenshot of the issue, if possible
- What you were doing right before the site went down
