Google Analytics lets you see who’s visiting your website, where they’re coming from, and what they do once they arrive. Connecting it to your WordPress site is straightforward.
Step 1: Create a Google Analytics 4 Property #
- Go to analytics.google.com and sign in with your Google account.
- If you don’t already have an account, click Start Measuring and follow the setup prompts.
- Choose Google Analytics 4 (GA4) when prompted to create a property.
- Enter your website’s basic details and continue through the setup wizard, selecting “Web” as your platform and entering your website URL.
Step 2: Get Your Measurement ID #
- Once your GA4 property is created, go to Admin (the gear icon in the bottom-left).
- Under the Property column, click Data Streams.
- Click on your web data stream.
- Copy the Measurement ID that looks like “G-XXXXXXXXXX.”
Step 3: Connect It to WordPress #
Option A: Use Site Kit by Google (Recommended) Site Kit by Google comes pre-installed on Apex Managed Hosting sites.
- Log into your WordPress dashboard and look for Site Kit in the left-hand menu.
- Click it, then click Connect Google Analytics.
- Sign in with the same Google account used to create your GA4 property and grant permissions.
- Site Kit will automatically detect and link your existing GA4 property.
Option B: Manually Add the Tracking Code
- Install and activate the “Insert Headers and Footers” plugin.
- Go to the plugin’s settings and paste your GA4 tracking snippet into the header section.
- Save your changes.
Step 4: Verify It’s Tracking #
- Go back to Google Analytics and click Reports in the left-hand menu.
- Click Realtime.
- In a separate browser tab, visit your live website.
- Within a minute or two, you should see your own visit appear as an active user.
If nothing shows up, double-check the Measurement ID matches and clear your site’s cache from Your Apex Managed Panel.
