Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of protection to your Apex account by requiring a second verification step beyond just your password.
Why 2FA Matters #
Your Apex account controls access to your websites, backups, DNS settings, and billing information. Enabling 2FA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access.
What You'll Need #
Before you begin, install an authenticator app on your phone, such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator.
Step-by-Step: Enabling 2FA #
- Log in to my.apexmanagedhosting.com.
- Click Account Settings from your dashboard.
- Find the Security section and select Two-Factor Authentication.
- Click Enable 2FA.
- A QR code will appear on screen. Open your authenticator app and scan it.
- Your authenticator app will generate a 6-digit code. Enter this code into the field on the Apex account page.
- Click Verify and Enable.
Saving Your Backup Codes #
After 2FA is enabled, Apex will provide a set of one-time backup codes.
- Download or copy these backup codes immediately.
- Store them somewhere safe, like a password manager or a secure physical location.
- Use a backup code to log in if you ever lose access to your authenticator app.
Each backup code can only be used once.
Logging In with 2FA #
- Enter your username or email and password as usual.
- When prompted, open your authenticator app and enter the current 6-digit code.
- Click Verify to complete your login.
Turning Off 2FA #
Go to Account Settings > Security > Two-Factor Authentication and click Disable. You'll need to confirm your password to turn it off.
