How to Point a Domain to Your Apex Managed Hosting

Once your site is set up on Apex, the final step is making sure your domain actually points to it. This usually means updating either your domain’s nameservers or its A record at your domain registrar.

Two Ways to Point Your Domain #

• Updating Nameservers — This hands off all DNS management to Apex, letting you manage records directly within Your Apex Managed Panel. This is the simpler, more common approach.
• Updating an A Record — This keeps DNS management at your current registrar but points your domain’s traffic to your Apex server’s IP address.

Finding Your Apex Hosting Details #

1. Log in to my.apexmanagedhosting.com and open Your Apex Managed Panel.
2. Select the instance you want to connect your domain to.
3. Go to the Domain or Instance Details section.
4. Note down the nameservers listed or the server’s IP address.

Option 1: Updating Nameservers #

1. Log in to your domain registrar’s website (such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains).
2. Find the DNS or Nameserver settings for your domain.
3. Replace the existing nameservers with the ones provided in Your Apex Managed Panel.
4. Save your changes.
5. Nameserver changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 24 hours to fully propagate.

Option 2: Updating an A Record #

1. Log in to your domain registrar’s website.
2. Navigate to the DNS management section.
3. Locate the A record for your root domain (often shown as “@”).
4. Update the value to the IP address provided in Your Apex Managed Panel.
5. If you also want your “www” version to work, update or add a CNAME record pointing “www” to your root domain.
6. Save your changes and allow time for propagation.

Confirming the Change Worked #

1. After waiting for propagation, visit your domain directly in a browser.
2. Confirm it loads your Apex-hosted site.
3. In Your Apex Managed Panel, check the instance’s domain status — it should show as “Connected” or “Active.”
4. If the SSL certificate hasn’t been issued yet, it typically provisions automatically once the domain points correctly.

A Note on Timing #

DNS changes aren’t always instant. While many changes take effect within a couple of hours, full global propagation can take up to 24–48 hours.
