How to Set Up a Professional Email Address with Your Domain

2 min read

A professional email address that matches your domain builds credibility and trust with customers. While Apex hosting focuses on powering your website, we make it easy to connect your domain to a dedicated email service and configure the necessary DNS records.

Choosing an Email Provider #

Apex hosting doesn’t include email hosting directly, but you can easily connect your domain to a dedicated email provider. Two popular options are:

  • Google Workspace — Includes Gmail, Calendar, and Drive under your own domain.
  • Zoho Mail — A budget-friendly option with a free tier for very small teams.

Signing Up with Your Chosen Provider #

  1. Go to your chosen provider’s website and start a new signup.
  2. Enter your domain name when prompted.
  3. Follow their steps to verify domain ownership — often done through a TXT record.
  4. Once verification is complete, the provider will show you the MX records needed to route email through their servers.

Adding MX Records in the Apex DNS Zone Editor #

  1. Log in to my.apexmanagedhosting.com and open Your Apex Managed Panel.
  2. Select the instance associated with your domain.
  3. Navigate to the DNS Zone Editor.
  4. Click Add Record.
  5. Choose MX as the record type.
  6. Enter the mail server value and priority number exactly as provided by your email provider.
  7. Repeat for any additional MX records required.
  8. If your provider also requires a TXT record, add that as well using the same process.
  9. Click Save after each record is added.

Verifying Everything Is Working #

  1. Return to your email provider’s setup dashboard and click to verify DNS records.
  2. Most providers confirm MX records within a few minutes to a few hours.
  3. Send a test email to your new address to confirm it arrives correctly.
  4. Send a test email from your new address to confirm outgoing mail works too.

A Few Tips #

  • Don’t remove any existing DNS records unless your email provider’s instructions specifically tell you to.
  • DNS changes can take time to propagate.
  • Keep your MX record priorities in the exact order specified by your provider.
