How to Clear Cache When Your Site Isn’t Updating

2 min read

If you’ve made a change to your website but it’s not showing up, the culprit is almost always caching. Here’s how to clear it at every level.

Why Caching Causes Stale Content #

Caching stores a saved snapshot of your pages so they load faster for visitors. This is great for performance but means recent changes can take a little while to appear. There are multiple layers of caching, so you may need to clear more than one.

Step 1: Clear Your WordPress Caching Plugin #

Many Apex-hosted sites use a caching plugin like WP Rocket, W3 Total Cache, or LiteSpeed Cache:

  1. Look for the plugin’s icon in the black admin toolbar at the top of your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Click it and select Clear Cache, Purge All Caches, or similar wording.
  3. Alternatively, go to Settings in the left-hand menu, find your caching plugin’s name, and click its Clear Cache button.

Step 2: Clear the Redis Object Cache #

If your plan includes Redis object caching:

  1. Log into my.apexmanagedhosting.com.
  2. Open Your Apex Managed Panel and go to the Performance or Caching section.
  3. Find the Redis Object Cache option and click Flush or Clear.

Step 3: Purge the CDN Cache #

If your site uses a CDN:

  1. In Your Apex Managed Panel, go to the Performance tab.
  2. Look for CDN Settings or Purge CDN Cache.
  3. Click Purge Cache. This can take a few minutes to fully propagate.

Step 4: Clear Your Browser Cache #

  1. Press Ctrl+Shift+Delete (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+Delete (Mac) in your browser.
  2. Select “Cached images and files” and clear them.
  3. Reload your site, or try an incognito window to bypass your browser cache entirely.

When to Ask Apex Support for a Server-Level Cache Clear #

If you’ve cleared everything above and old content is still appearing, there may be a server-level cache requiring our team to clear manually. Contact support with your domain name and a description of the specific content that isn’t updating.
